Accomplishments and Challenges

Your Association has made significant headway in many areas of activity in the past year.

We have fostered and established a closeness with Cape May Elementary School and appreciate their willingness to listen to our viewpoint. We did endorse their budget, but still feel there are important areas for improvement.

We have renewed cooperation and access to the Mayor and City Council. While we may be viewed as the Loyal Opposition, many times our interests coincide and we do not hesitate to endorse their actions. This has been most visible in the area of keeping the 2% room tax for the city. While we feel that this need be extended to house and condo rentals, we encouraged them to retain this alternative revenue source, and are gratified that they did.

And our greatest challenge continued to be the Regional School issue. As you know, Cape May taxpayers pay more than their proportionate  share - by 300%. Lower Township has made no effort to address this issue, and TPA continues spearhead it with City Council. We are pleased that our research yielded the attorney now being used to press the issue, and are hopeful of getting the folks in West Cape May to join the battle. They, too, are paying more than their fair share.

And lastly, we are proud of this Website you are reading today. This is very much a work in progress, and we solicit your advice and comments.

Please use this to increase your knowledge of our activities, and bring you closer to TPA!
