Meeting Minutes June 21, 2006:
Call to Order; Pledge of
Allegiance. The July minutes were read and approved.
Roll Call:
Rich Reinhart - A
Hugh McCauley - P
Bill Smigo - P
Dagmar Chew - P
Bob Steenrod - P
Audrey Conant - P |
Jack Wichterman - P
Bob Fite - P
Tony Williams - P
Pete Iurato - P
Kate Wyatt - P |
Kate Wyatt: Explanation of Rich Reinhart's health issue.
Hugh McCauley: Has Engineer been in on some of the talks about
Mall, etc? Maybe should have a waiver at entrance of Mall for
trips and falls.
Jack Wichterman: Could have done engineering before going out
for bond issue.
Linda Steenrod: Explained bond referendum issue as presented.
Louis Castella: Is going to be at the August 15th meeting.
Linda Steenrod: Suggests Lou Corea hold small meetings so
correct information will be given.
Dagmer Chew: We have misconceptions - more communication to
the public. Information should be presented from council before it
comes to a vote for taxpayers benefit. Linda agrees all ordinances
should be explained and come before the public for information before
going out for bids.
Public Comments: Water & Sewer - Under a different ordinance -
$450,000 for Mall - water & sewer will come under utilities. Not
taking Church property. Towers may wish to be apart in walks, etc., with
Mall. No decision yet. Rhodeside & Harwell to gather ideas
first before concepts.
Christine Miller: Presentation
- Her recommendation - The TPA should take a position for the
town;
- August 18th meeting should have representation of everyone in
town;
- Took Revitalization Committee to task 76% ratables are
homeowners;
- High residential assessment;
- Could petition for a change of government;
- Questioned the Feasibility Study done for Convention Hall;
- If approved at $1.2 Million, we'd show a deficit of $300,000
each year.
- Questioned eminent domain;
- Why are we having this Revitalization?
- As of 6/03 residential property has gone up 3 times;
- Curtis Bashaw is the driving force behind this.
Response to Comments:
Rich Juliano: Lets have an open mind not a knee jerk reaction
towards someone who comes up with an idea. What is good for
Cape May? Keep and open mind.
Revitalization Committee: Resigned 3 months ago - Rich Reinhart
went on as Representative of TPA Board. Dagmar Chew letter to Mayor
requesting Hugh McCauley represent TPA on Revitalization Committee.
Motion was made by Tony Williams: We would be happy to have a
representative on the Revitalization Committee.
Jack Wichterman: No new form of government possible for
another 2 years. Concept only at this time for Convention Hall.
Old bonds retired. Our tax rate is excellent - best in the state.
Lou Corea may not spend a cent before it comes before Council.
Dagmar Chew: Board not taking a position yea or nay on
revitalization - constantly being a watch dog.
Tony Williams: We have been consistently critical of City
Council & City Government on lack of information and discussion.
Had it been handled properly, we wouldn't be where we are today.
Bob Steenrod: Our interest in Convention Center remaining a
size we can handle - used by citizens of our town. In favor of
concept - not telling poeple how to vote.
August 15th: Open Forum - 7pm City Council at Cape May
Elementary School; Rhodeside & Harwell will be present.
Kate Wyatt: Contacting Lou Corea about Master Plan.
Tony Williams: What is Cape May going to look like?
Bob Fite: Maybe Revitalization should start with something
else other than the Mall and parking.
August 18th: 7pm Annual TPA Meeting in the City Hall
Auditorium; Revitalization - Mayor + Deputy Mayor.
Jim Wyatt: Checking to see if a representative from
Revitalization Committee could be present.
Citizen of the Year: Jerry Gaffney
Heroine of the Year: Natalie Corsanico
Jim Wyatt: Public Comment - "Don't change Cape May!" ("You
need to be more passionate Jim!")
Dennis Crawley (PA Member, retired): Interested in being a
member of TPA Board.
Meeting Adjourned: 6:20pm
Respectfully submitted,
Audrey Conant, Secretary
