Meeting Minutes August 27,
2004: The Annual Meeting of the TPA was called to order by
Vice President Rich Juliano at 7:00 PM and the Pledge of Allegiance was
recited.
There was very nearly a full house for this end-of-summer event,
and we were pleased to see and meet our three new Directors: Dagmer
Chew, Bill Smigo, and Tony Williams.
In addition, Rich Juliano and Al Beale were reelected to two-year
terms.
All other Directors were in attendance save President Al Beale.
They were also introduced to the attendees.
We accepted with regret the resignations of four Directors
during this past year. We appreciate and acknowledge the valued services
of Marge Brown, Dave McGonigle, Heather Turner, and Rich Townsend.
Rich J. spoke of the significant accomplishments of the TPA year:
Strengthening of our excellent relationship with Cape May
Elementary;
The adoption by City Council of two sponsored/recommended TPA
initiatives.
And he additionally spoke of our most critical and important
challenge for the year ahead: The Regional High School tax
situation that so disfavors Cape May taxpayers.
The Annual Spirit Award was presented to Curtis Bashaw.
His appointment to the Casino Redevelopment Authority only reinforces
the esteem he has brought with the renovation of Congress Hall. Although
Mr. Bashaw was unexpectedly called away, hotel manager Patrick Logue
accepted on his behalf with a well-received talk.
Director Barney Dougherty then presented a well-deserved Man of
the Year Award to our own Rich Townsend. The retiring
Director spend many years on the Board, including several terms as
President. He will continue to help us as liaison with City Council on
the LCMR tax situation. Well done, Rich!
Committee Reports summarized situations at LCMR as well as
CMES, and reminded all in attendance that Capemaytaxpayers.com was up
and running.
Guest speaker for the evening was Cape May Tax Assessor
Mike Jones. He gave an informative speech discussing the need and
process for revaluation, and how the reassessment Appeal process works.
After public remarks and questions, the meeting was adjourned at 8:10
PM.
Respectfully Submitted,
Audrey Conant
Acting Secretary
